Damn it! My brain has gone to mush and I can't think what to write!! That's what 3 hours of drawing hair does to you!

Anyways, to cut a long story short and because I can't figure out what to write - this is my current project featuring Kate Winslet. I don't usually pick women to draw but I wanted to try and improve my hair drawing skills and this picture filled my goal. As you can see I've sketched out where the hair going to go, now I'm onto the eye melting task of filling in all the detail. Why oh why do I do this to myself?!

Might call the finished piece 'An English Rose' What do you think?

Yes, hair is hard to draw, my poor brain always suffers from it ;) But your picture looks very well and I'm sure the outcome will be fantastic!

Many people told me they want to try it out but so far no one showed me some results ;) Maybe they are just shy.

It's beautiful. I can already see there will going to be so much detail on her hair. Good luck finishing it.

Looks great so far :)

I do a lot of erasing for the lighter parts of the hair, tends to speed things up, looks like you've done the same down where the hair ends?

Thanks! Yeah I've done a lot of erasing; I'm using *Svera's Hair tutorial as a guide [link] So far the techniques are working well for me, even if my concentration levels aren't!

I wish you good luck with it because I know how hard it is to draw hair. It drives me crazy and I just don't have enough patience to draw hair properly. I think I have quite chaotic style of drawing hair :D Anyway, your drawing looks good so far and the title sounds nice as well. :-)

Thanks! Yeah, hair can be really difficult to draw. I'm generally ok at drawing short hair but not had much practice at drawing long hair. There's some excellent tutorials on here though if you're struggling with your technique - =Cataclysm-X has some fantastic tutorials, but for this piece I'm trying out *Svera's tutorial [link] and so far it's going well even if it is liquidfying my brain!

I do know how you feel. I went through the same with my Amanda Seyfried portrait the other day...I wonder why I put myself through it(drawing the hair). For me, it's the hardest part of the portrait.
You are doing a great job with the eyes and face, so take a break and return to do the hair....that's what I do. =)

Thanks hun  Generally I'm ok at drawing hair, if it's short and belongs to some sexy male! ;-) But I really admire the way other artists on here draw long flowing locks, so this drawing is kinda a practise piece for me to help improve my skills. If you're having trouble drawing hair, have you tried any of =Cataclysm-X's tutorials? They helped me a lot. For this drawing I'm using one of *Svera's tutorials [link] which is fantastic also.

You're most welcome! I did check out the hair tutorials and they
are quite helpful! And I added them to my watch :D
I may have to refer to them on occasion, but just knowing what pencils and tools to use will be beneficial...
I think I'm a real novice in drawing hair right now! =P But, practicing
will make drawing hair more easy in time. Now, I know that drawing
male hair doesn't have a much to draw...the women have the long locks
and that gets me going crazy at times. I have to revise the hair
if the photo has not as good lighting and the hair style! Oh, my gosh,
I have confronted many photos that the hair is like a birds' nest xD
So I improvise the hairstyle, or try to!
Happy drawing on the hair! I'll await for your finished portrait!
